Our mission is to improve the food system. We do this by producing high quality, nutritious, and functional dairy alternatives. Better yet, we make them available to other companies to use in their own products.

Our founding team

We’ve combined the mighty power of pulses with years of research from the Riddet Institute to provide our delicious plant-based ingredients. AND we haven’t sacrificed the great taste and creamy texture of the foods you love.

Our co-founders Arup Nag, Alejandra Acevedo-fani, Yiran Wang, Debashree Roy, Harjinder Singh and Alex Devereux are dedicated to pioneering new sustainable, plant-based foods using the breakthrough technology they have developed in order to make a significant contribution to the food system.

Alex Devereux

CEO

Starting his career at Fonterra then moving into roles in the technology and investment sectors, he always wanted to make a significant contribution in the food industry. At ANDFOODs, Alex channels his broad experiences into pioneering sustainable, plant-based dairy alternatives. Alex works alongside a talented team of New Zealand's top food scientists. Together, they're breaking new ground with innovative food technologies and pulse crops – crafting foodservice and ingredient formats that set new standards in the plant-based segment.

Dr. Arup Nag

CTO

Arup is known for his expertise and contributions in the field of food technology. Born and raised in India, he pursued his passion for dairy science, completing his undergraduate studies there. After gaining considerable experience working in the dairy industry in India, Arup obtained his postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees in food technology from Massey University, New Zealand. With a solid academic foundation, his multifaceted career encompassed diverse roles in project management, research, and innovation. Throughout this journey, several of his brainchild projects witnessed successful commercialization, revolutionising aspects of the food industry and leaving an indelible mark on its landscape.

Jamie Wood

Project Manager

Jamie joins ANDFOODs with a vibrant array of experience. Her journey spans finance, impact consulting, and a variety of projects that focus on our climate. She is passionate about innovations that cut emissions and tackle global issues. Excited to be at the forefront of plant-based innovation, she eagerly anticipates the supermarket debut of foods she personally endorses as a plant-based enthusiast. Currently learning Mandarin, her background includes working in investment banking, start-ups, private wealth, and early-stage investment.

Our R&D Team

Dr. Alejandra Acevedo-Fani

Application Specialist

Alejandra is a Senior Food Scientist and holds a Patisserie Chef Diploma. She brings deep expertise in food technology, food formulation and patisserie techniques. This knowledge drives the creation and performance of ANDFOODs products in bakery, dessert and pastry applications. Alejandra has many superpowers, but the one we see most often is her ability to create incredible culinary creations using our products.

Yiran Wang

Product & Process Development
Specialist

Yiran Wang brings significant experience in food development and innovation to ANDFOODs. His expertise in vegan foods research and development, covering everything from lab trials to production, provides our R&D team with invaluable knowledge and fresh perspectives. Yiran has a nose for good food and is always in charge of restaurant selection when the team is travelling together.

Dr. Debashree Roy

Agricultural Material Specialist

Debashree is a food scientist with a background in agriculture and grain processing. She has developed in-depth knowledge on plant material growing conditions, varieties, processing and functionality. She also has an entrepreneurial flare far beyond the laboratory and brings a lot of energy into the team alongside her technical capabilities.

Leon Clement

Chair

Leon is the Chair of our board, and a key advisor and contributor to the ANDFOODs mission. He brings in depth experience from leading dairy businesses in Asia and New Zealand, including as Managing Director of Fonterra Brands New Zealand and CEO of Synlait. He also sits on the boards of Daisy Lab, Raglan Food Co, Tasman Bay Foods and Nui Markets.

Dist. Prof. Harjinder Singh

Director

Prof. Singh is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Riddet Institute. He is a world-renowned food scientist and was recently acknowledged by Stanford University as being within the top 2% of academics in food science. He has led the development of a range of food technologies that have been acquired by global food companies.

Dist. Prof. Paul Maughan

Director

Prof. Maughan is renowned globally for his contributions to human nutrition and protein metabolism. He continues to lead pioneering research into the effects of diet on gut metabolism and digestion. Much like Harjinder, his full achievements are too long to list here, but we are thrilled to have him as part of our team.

Barnaby Marshall

Director

Barnaby is a Partner at Icehouse Ventures, New Zealand’s leading early stage company investor. He is also the co-founder of two of his own businesses, one in men’s fashion and the other in beverage manufacturing.

Mark Cleaver

Director

Along with his position at Massey Ventures, Mark is an entrepreneur at heart, having started several of his own ventures and has become a cornerstone of the innovation ecosystem in New Zealand.
